WE ARE AUCHENTOSHAN
Established in 1823, we reside on the outskirts of Glasgow, and are proud to be the city’s only distillery. Our name ,‘ock-un-tosh-un’ - means ‘corner of the field’. You can see why when you visit - the distillery sits near farmland on the banks of the River Clyde, in the shadow of the Old Kilpatrick hills between Glasgow and Loch Lomond. That makes us a Lowland single malt whisky.
We are renowned as being the only distillery in Scotland to have a third still, making our whisky triple distilled. It’s more time consuming. It’s more expensive. And it’s also absolutely unique - no other Scottish distillery insists on triple distilling every single drop - this gives our Lowland Single Malt Whisky a complex yet smooth and delicate flavour.
AUCHENTOSHAN
THREE WOOD
ACCIDENTALLY SUBLIME
Our Distillery Manager planned to rest our Single Malt Scotch Whisky first in North American Bourbon casks – then finish in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. The goal? To craft a perfect combination of these famous woods.
Time passes. The bourbon casks do their work. But all is not well. When he checked on progress, it was clear the liquid would need far longer in the Oloroso casks to meet its full potential. However, time was something he didn’t have.
And so, a change of plan: place the spirit in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for a final maturation - a wood famed for drama and darkness.
But would the spirit be good enough to be called an Auchentoshan? Frankly, the results astounded even us: a rich, complex whisky with incredible toffee and sherry oak flavours.
There is also the abundant mouthfeel and depth for which Pedro Ximenez is famous.
